Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 30, 2026 · Applies to: Torchlight Mapper for iPhone and iPad
Summary: Torchlight Mapper does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any personal data. It has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party SDKs, and it makes no network requests. Everything you create stays on your device unless you choose to share or export it yourself.
1. Who this policy is from
Torchlight Mapper (the “App”) is developed and published by James Frink, an independent individual developer (“I”, “me”, or “my”). You can reach me at jkfrink@icloud.com.
2. Data I collect
None. I do not collect any personal data, usage data, diagnostic data, identifiers, contact information, location data, or device information from the App. There is no server for the App to send data to, and the App does not make network requests.
Specifically, the App does not:
- Require or offer an account, login, email address, or any registration.
- Include analytics, crash reporting, telemetry, or advertising software.
- Include any third-party software development kits (SDKs) or trackers.
- Track you across apps or websites, or use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA).
- Access your contacts, photos, camera, microphone, location, or health data.
- Upload, back up, or synchronize your maps to any server operated by me or anyone else.
Because nothing is collected, the App's App Store privacy label reports “Data Not Collected”, and its privacy manifest declares no tracking and no collected data types.
3. Data the App stores on your device
The App stores the content you create so it is there the next time you open it. This data never leaves your device except when you deliberately export or share it. It includes:
- Your dungeons, levels, rooms, corridors, doors, stairs, item markers, and map markers.
- Labels and notes you type, and your adventure log entries.
- Automatic backups of a dungeon created when you delete it, retained for 30 days so you can restore it. You can delete these manually at any time from Settings → Backups.
- App preferences such as your chosen theme, map style, torch timer duration, notification opt-in, sketch settings, and whether you have completed the tutorial.
This data is stored inside the App's private container on your device using Apple's on-device storage. If you have iCloud Backup or device backups enabled in iOS, your device backup may include the App's data. That backup is handled entirely by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and I have no access to it.
4. When data leaves your device (only at your request)
The App gives you tools to move your own maps around. In every case, you start the action and you choose the destination:
- Sharing a dungeon file. You can export a dungeon as a
.torchlightfile and send it through the standard iOS share sheet (Messages, AirDrop, Mail, Files, or any other target you have installed). If you type an optional “shared by” name, it is written into that file so the recipient knows who sent it. The file goes only where you send it. It does not pass through me. - Exporting a map. You can export a PDF or PNG of a map, its room notes, and its adventure log, and save, print, or send it wherever you like.
- Importing a file. You can open a
.torchlightfile that someone sent you. It is read directly on your device.
Once you hand a file to another app or another person, its handling is governed by that app's or that person's practices, not by this policy.
5. Notifications
If you turn on the torch timer notification, the App schedules a local notification on your device so you are alerted when the timer expires. Local notifications are generated entirely on-device and are not push notifications. No data is sent anywhere, and no push token is created or transmitted. You can turn notifications off in the App's settings or in the iOS Settings app at any time.
6. Required-reason API disclosures
Apple requires apps to declare a reason for using certain APIs. The App declares only two, both for purely local purposes:
- User defaults — to save and read your own app preferences (theme, map style, torch timer duration, notification opt-in, sketch settings, tutorial completion).
- File timestamps — to delete backups older than 30 days, and to handle files you import or export yourself.
7. Children's privacy
The App is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children, because I do not collect personal information from anyone. The App contains no advertising, no third-party analytics, no in-app purchases, no chat, and no user-to-user features.
8. Your rights, retention, and deletion
Because I hold no data about you, there is nothing for me to retain, export, correct, or delete on your behalf, and no data subject request is necessary. You are in complete control of your own data on your device:
- Delete individual content — delete a dungeon, level, room, corridor, door, stairs, marker, note, or log entry inside the App.
- Delete backups — remove them from Settings → Backups, or let them expire automatically after 30 days.
- Delete everything — delete the App from your device. iOS removes the App's container and all of its data, including all dungeons, backups, and preferences. This cannot be undone, so export or share anything you want to keep first.
Data you create is retained on your device for as long as you keep it there. There is no server-side retention period, because there is no server.
9. Third parties
I do not share data with third parties, because I do not collect any. The App bundles no third-party SDKs, libraries, or services. It uses only Apple's own operating system frameworks on your device.
The App is distributed through the Apple App Store. Your download, purchase (the App is free), and App Store activity are handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy, and I receive only the aggregate, anonymized sales and download reports Apple provides to all developers. Those reports contain no information that identifies you.
10. This website
This website is a set of static pages hosted on GitHub Pages. It contains no analytics, no cookies set by me, no tracking pixels, and no advertising. GitHub may log standard technical information such as IP addresses as part of serving the pages, as described in GitHub's privacy statement. I do not have access to those logs.
11. Changes to this policy
If the App ever changes in a way that affects privacy, I will update this page and revise the effective date above before or at the time that version of the App is released. Meaningful changes will also be reflected in the App's App Store privacy label. Continuing to use the App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
