The more of this you can include, the faster I can fix it:

Feature requests

Very welcome. Tell me the problem you hit at the table and I will figure out the feature. Real play situations are far more useful to me than a feature name.

Frequently asked questions

Is this app for players or for the person running the game?
For players. It was built for the person at the table who gets handed the graph paper and maps the caves, caverns, castles, and dungeons the party explores as they explore them. The person running the game can absolutely use it too, but that is not who it was designed around.
Does it work with the game system I play?
It should. Torchlight Mapper is a general-purpose grid mapper. It draws on a 5-foot square grid, which matches most dungeon-crawling systems, and it contains no rules, stat blocks, or publisher content of any kind. It is a mapping tool, not a rules companion.
Do I need an account or an internet connection?
Neither. There is no sign-in and the app makes no network requests at all. It works fine in a basement with no reception, on a plane, or in airplane mode.
Where are my maps stored? Are they in the cloud?
On your device only. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. If you have iOS device backups or iCloud Backup turned on, your maps may be included in that device backup, which is handled entirely by Apple.
How do I get a map to another player?
Export the dungeon as a .torchlight file and send it through the share sheet — Messages, AirDrop, Mail, Files, anything you have installed. When they tap the file, it opens in Torchlight Mapper. If they already have that same dungeon, the app shows a visual diff of what changed before they choose Overwrite Current Map or Import as Copy (Keeps Current Map). Overwriting backs up the existing map on the device first.
Can I print a map or send a PDF to someone without the app?
Yes. Export as PDF or PNG, optionally including room notes and the adventure log, and print it via AirPrint or send the file anywhere.
I deleted a dungeon by mistake. Can I get it back?
Probably. Deleting a dungeon creates an automatic on-device backup that is kept for 30 days. Go to Settings → Backups and restore it. After 30 days the backup is removed automatically.
Can you recover my maps if I lose my phone or delete the app?
No, and I want to be very clear about this: I never receive your data, so I have no copy of it and no way to recover it. Deleting the app removes all of its maps and backups permanently. Export or share anything you would be upset to lose.
Why can't I move a room or a corridor?
It is probably locked. Rooms and corridors are both locked by default so a stray drag pans the map instead of shifting your dungeon. Unlock it with the Lock toggle in the toolbar; for a room you can also use the Lock switch in its info panel. Also note that an unlocked room or corridor has to be selected first: the first drag selects it, the second moves it.
A locked corridor stretched anyway when I moved a room. Is that a bug?
No, that one is deliberate. The lock only stops you from dragging the corridor itself. A corridor joined to a room still follows and stretches when that room moves or resizes, because a corridor that stayed put would tear away from the wall it is attached to.
I selected several elements and the group won't move.
One of them is still locked. A group move needs every selected room and corridor unlocked, and it refuses the whole move rather than leaving part of the selection behind. Tap Unlock in the selection banner to unlock all of them at once; leaving the selection locks them again.
The map spun sideways. How do I get north back?
A two-finger twist rotates the map. Tap the compass, or the recenter button that appears when the map is rotated, to animate back to north-up. Rotation is never saved.
Can I replay the tutorial?
Yes, it can be replayed on demand at any time; it is not a one-time first-run-only walkthrough.
Is it really free? Are there ads?
Free, with no ads, no in-app purchases, and no subscription.
